Eligibility and Duration:


MBBS is not the only degree to becoming a doctor in India, as there are other alternate medical branches of medicine like Ayurveda and Homeopathy, it is still the
most coveted of all the medical degrees in India. Entry into this field is after 10+2 Science - PCB (physics, chemistry and biology) trio. Entry to any medicine related
course is via an entrance test (state level or all-India level). Upon the successful completion of the 5 and 1/2 year medicine course, the MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine
and Bachelor of Surgery) is awarded. After the successful completion of the MBBS, one can opt for MD/MS/DM/ for postgraduate specialization.

Course Contents:


The Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery is a 5 and 1/2 year course that can divided into 2 years of basic sciences and three years of clinical sciences and training. They
study a host of subjects aimed at teaching diagnostic and treatment of human disease. Some of the subjects they study are anatomy, clinical biochemistry,
physiology, pathology, pharmacology, pathophysiology of disease, immunology and so forth.

The last three years are critical as students are taught to handle inpatient and out-patient departments where they can hone their clinical skills. The course is
completed by a 1 year rotatinginternship. Every year there is a professional exam, followed by practical and clinical exams. A minimum of 50% is required for
passing.

Following a MBBS program, most students opt for a specialized field and enroll for a post graduate course. Entry to post graduate courses could be via an entrance
exam.
